Things to do near Upchurch, Kent with the kids this summer!


It’s that time of year again, the kids are off school and you are wondering how to entertain them over the next 6 weeks! Here are some local events that may sark their interest.


Summer Holiday Fun! at Kent Life Heritage Farm Park

22 Jul - 31 Aug

The summer holiday schedule is packed full of entertainment, plenty of fun everyday!

Why not have a go on one of the hand powered paddle boats, enjoy an owl flying demonstration, join in with animal feeding sessions, catch a show in our Big Top and so much more! You can also step back in time and visit the Vintage Village, explore the Victorian Petts Farmhouse, or enjoy the 1950s Sandling Farmhouse. There’s also indoor and outdoor play areas, fun farm rides, a wooden hunt with a sweet treat and the chance to get arty in our Paint-a-Pot studio.


Visit Dotty’s Tea Room with a great selection of home made cakes and other tasty meals and snacks, or check out the special wood-fired pizza oven in the Pizza Garden. A summer visit wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the ice cream hut too!


Science Fair at Kent Life Heritage Farm Park

14th – 18th Aug

Visit Kent Life during the summer holidays for a 5 day celebration of all things science!

You can experience:

  • George the Jurassic Dinosaur!

  • Chemistry: Einstein’s Entertainers are ready with various experiments including soaring rockets, dry ice showers and touchable bubbles!

  • Palaeontology: Uncover some fossils and make your own!

  • Forensics: Visit the crime scene, examine the evidence and dust for fingerprints.

  • Physics: Learn about gravity, magnets, shadows and more. . .

  • Biology: Can you name all the parts of the body? Let Kent Life’s animals teach you about life cycles.

  • Critter Corner: A chance to find out about bugs, snakes, spiders and other critters.


Ice Cream Festival at Kent Life Heritage Farm Park

26th – 28th Aug

Kent Life welcomes back the Ice Cream Festival. Sample tasters from our ice cream vendors, or maybe try a waffle or sundae? There will be over 40 fabulous varieties of ice cream to try and buy and don’t forget to visit the toppings station to finish off your ice cream with a variety of syrups, marshmallows and sprinkles. There will also be a selection of dairy free and vegan options.


Summertime at Leeds Castle

22 Jul - 31 Aug

This Summertime at Leeds Castle be entertained by a host of fun-filled family activities in over 500-acres of glorious gardens and picturesque scenery, that is sure to entertain and amaze!


Days out with the family have never looked so fun with a vast array of attractions and activities for all interests and ages to enjoy this summer.


NEW for 2023, take a trip and enjoy the sun as the new beach is the perfect spot for relaxation, enjoyment and of course, building sandcastles. The Beach at Leeds Castle has been designed to provide a seaside-like experience. It comes complete with deck chairs, buckets and spades, and even themed soundscapes as you enjoy the views overlooking the Great Water.


Summer Holiday Make It Sessions at Maidstone Museum

25th Jul – 24thAug

This summer there are 5 weeks of Make it craft activities. There is also a new exhibition all about the history of the NHS 75th anniversary. To link to this, there will be several NHS themed crafts. Other crafts will be linked to our other collections and galleries.

The cost is £3.50 per child per activity and booking is highly recommended.


Tudor Summer at Ightham Mote, Sevenoaks

Saturday, July 22 to Thursday, August 31

Travel back in time for a Tudor summer at this historic estate. There will be a Tudor festival to kick off the holidays on Saturday, July 29 and Sunday, July 30 which features interactive demonstrations and immersive displays. There will also be an outdoor shield trail, craft workshops and costumed characters over five weeks.


Meet Your Favourite Characters at Howletts Widlife Park Canterbury

Weekly from Wednesday, August 2nd to Wednesday, August 30th

One of Kent’s biggest wildlife parks will be home to not only rare and endangered animals this summer, but also a host of children’s TV characters. Families can meet their favourite characters from shows such as Paw Patrol, Peppa Pig, PJ Masks, Hey Duggee and Bluey every Wednesday during the holidays and grab a selfie as they wander through the park.
