Celebrate the Queen's Jubilee with Events in and Around North Kent!

In 2022 Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee Throughout the year, Her Majesty and members of the Royal Family will travel around the country to undertake a variety of engagements to mark this historic occasion culminating with the focal point of the Platinum Jubilee Weekend in June.



Events In Upchurch:

Upchurch Parish Council is celebrating The Queen's Platinum Jubilee 2022 in the village, and all residents are invited.


The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Beacons - Thursday 2nd June


The village beacon at the Recreation Ground will be lit once more as part of a coordinated beacon lighting across the country.


The evening will start at 7:30pm, and there will be a selection of food and drinks stalls with music for a festive mood in celebration of Her Majesty’s outstanding service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth.


As part of the national celebration, the Parish Council has arranged for a Piper to play Diu Regnare at 9:35pm and at the request of the Queen’s Pageant Master, a Bugler will play the unique Bugle Call - Majesty, at 9:40pm, before the beacons, are lit at 9:45pm.


The village beacon was lit for the first time on 11th November 2018 as part of Battle’s Over, a coordinated beacon lighting and international commemoration marking 100 years since the guns fell silent at the end of World War I.


Street Parties - Sunday 5th June


Village residents are invited to share in this spectacular weekend of celebration, a time for friendship, food and fun with families, loved ones, friends and neighbours.


Upchurch street parties are encouraged and, where it is not possible for you to hold street parties in your road, because, for example, it is a through route or too fast to be safe, residents can have their 'street party' at the Recreation Ground in Oak Lane.


Groups who would like to take advantage of this need to inform the Parish Council so that the event can be held safely. Please contact the Clerk to book your space, you will be expected to provide your own tables, chairs, gazebos and so on and of course, clear up after!


Events in Rainham:


A big weekend of Jubilee celebrations for Medway is planned over the extended bank holiday from Thursday, 2 to Sunday, 5 June which will begin with beacons across the country being lit in celebration. On Thursday, 2 June beacons will be lit at Riverside Country Park, Rainham, the Great Lines Heritage Park in Gillingham, Victorian Gardens in Chatham, Broomhill Park in Chatham and Kingshill Recreation Ground in Hoo. At 2pm Mike Billingham, Medway’s Town Crier will announce the lighting of the beacons as part of a proclamation at 2pm in Rochester High Street.


Residents are invited to pack a picnic and join together with friends and family at Medway’s Platinum Jubilee Live Site in Rochester Castle Gardens where a massive screen will broadcast the Jubilee events taking place in London including The Queen’s Birthday Parade, Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral, the Platinum Party at the Palace and The Platinum Jubilee Pageant.


Saturday, 4 June will see a spectacular Medway River Pageant involving a large collection of historic, commercial and recreational craft which will parade up the River Medway to Sun Pier in Chatham. The pageant will culminate with 'The Great Cacophony' - a wall of sound generated by the ships, viewing public and shoreside attractions and churches including all the ships horns and steam locomotives at the Historic Dockyard Chatham alongside a gun salute from Fort Amherst.


The Dickens Festival will take place in Rochester on Saturday and Sunday, 4 and 5 June with a special Jubilee twist with character parades, live music, poetry, literature and comedy performances taking place alongside the Jubilee Live Site in the Castle Gardens in venues up and down Rochester High Street.


Medway residents are being encouraged to get together with neighbours and friends over the four-day period to celebrate the Jubilee with street or community parties including on the day of the Big Jubilee Lunch – Sunday, 5 June. The Big Jubilee Lunch encourages communities to get to know each other a little bit better and bring the Jubilee celebrations into the heart of every community.


Residents can apply to host street parties for one day only across the bank holiday weekend, or as part of The Big Jubilee Lunch on Sunday, 5 June. In recognition of this significant occasion, Medway Council has waived the fee of organising a road closure for residents hosting a Platinum Jubilee street party between Thursday, 2 and Sunday, 5 June.

Jubilee Roadshows- 5th May to 7th June 2022 -Medway

Staff from Medway Archives Centre (MAC) will be visiting library branches and hubs until June 2022 to showcase MAC resources and services and also to encourage the communities in Medway to share their photographs and memories of Jubilees’ past and any other Royal connections.


Print Workshops - 21st May 2022 -Chatham Community Hub & Rochester Library

Time: 30 minutes sessions: Cahtham: 10am, 10.30am, & 11am Rochester: 2pm, 2.30pm, & 3pm

Free 30-minute screen printing workshop. So have fun helping to create a very large flag and also your own individual one to take home for both adults and children, for Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Events In Kent.


Proms in the Park -Whatman Park, Maidstone- 28th May 2022

Time: 3pm-8pm

Free, fun-filled family day with plenty of music and community spirit to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee. Make sure to dress up for the occasion and bring those flags to wave. Maidstone Wind Symphony, Invicta Jazz, Hazlitt Choir and Hazlitt Youth Theatre, Hazlitt Dance Company, Fred Clark, and Clea Llewelly are just a few of the acts performing.



Fake Or Fortune Trail, 28th May to 4th June 2022 -Guildhall Museum, Rochester

Time: 10am-5pm.

There is a replica set of the crown jewels in the museum’s collection and so take the Fake Or Fortune Trail at Guildhall Museum to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee In Kent this half term and spot the fake from the real thing in their fun picture quiz trail. There’s an under 5 years colours eye-spy trail available too.


Queen Bee Jubilee Half Term Trail, Lullingstone Country Park, Dartford -28th May to 5th June 2022

Time: 10am-4pm

During half term for the Jubilee celebrations pre-book online or drop-in and pick up one of the Queen Bee Jubilee trail sheets. Moreover, explore the woods and park, following the self-led activity trail. All completed trails will receive a small prize.


Jubilee Week Special, Ninja Warrior UK Adventure Park, Chatham -30th May to 5th June 2022

Celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee this coming half term at this supervised activity and fitness venue inspired by ITV’s hit programme Ninja Warrior UK, with plenty of royal activities as well.


Jubilee Bank Holiday House Party, Leeds Castle, Maidstone -2nd June 2022

Celebrate an evening of cocktails, dancing and food with a live Jazz/Swing band. Moreover, it also includes an exclusive tour of the Castle, learning of previous owner Lady Olive Baillie’s life during the 1950s.


Castle of Queens Jubilee Weekend, Leeds Castle, Maidstone- 2nd to 5th June 2022

Time: Shows at 11am & 4pm

Join the quartet of trobairitzes as they take you on a journey through the Middle Ages, telling the stories of the 6 most famous queens who lived at Leeds Castle in Maidstone. So what’s a trobairitz? It’s a female troubadour. In conclusion, it is an expert storyteller and singer who turns the facts of medieval queens’ lives into magic. In this fast-paced, story-led show of crusaders, romantics, rebels and custard tarts, find out what makes a truly great Queen and what lessons can be learnt from our powerful medieval queens.


A ‘Darling’ Celebration, Kent Life Heritage Farm Park - 2nd to 5th June 2022

Time: 10am-5pm – last entry 4pm

There is a real street party vibe, with bunting galore and traditional village fete entertainment complete with live ’50s music throughout the day at this ‘Darling’ event. Moreover, for nostalgia seekers, don’t miss the replica kitchen from the original Darling Buds of May TV series. You can also test your Darling Buds knowledge with their fun quiz and also your favourite Kent Life activities will also be available.


Together Festival, Mote Park, Maidstone - 3rd June 2022

Time: 1pm-10pm

The Together Festival returns to Maidstone’s Mote Park to thank all the NHS and key workers and also to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, featuring performances from fan favourites from the decades, tribute acts, local bands, a fairground, family fun, and more. Live music from a range of acts including Five, Blazin’ Squad, Shola Ama, and tributes to Queen, Elton John.


Queens Platinum Jubilee Celebrations, Viewpoint Club, Gravesend- 3rd June 2022

Time: 1pm

Celebrate the Queens Platinum Jubilee with this event featuring live music from The Jivettes, Calli Malpas, Sonny & The Harp. In addition, there are live performances from Irish dancers, children’s balloon modelling, face painting, a children’s craft table, food stalls and lots more.


Royal Jubilee Dickensian Costumed Ball, Rochester Corn Exchange, Medway- 3rd June 2022

Time: 7pm

In celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in Kent the dress theme for this event will be either red, white and blue, or platinum (silver) on purple. In addition, entertainment will be provided by Legacy and there will be a raffle in aid of the town’s Eastgate House.


Jubilee Day, Kingsoak Farm, Ulcombe in Maidstone - 4th June 2022

Time: 10am-5pm

Join this jam-packed day of celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. There will be a farmers market, classic cars and Kent Fire and Rescue static. in addition, you can also experience a horse and cart ride between Kingsoak Farm and their sister farm Roundoak and Maidstone Motor Sport will be bringing some military vehicles to show. At they are a working farm, you will also see some vintage and modern farm machinery, there will be a farm safari, farmers market and lots more.


Platinum Jubilee Concert, Mick Jagger Centre, Dartford - 4th June 2022

Time: 7.30pm

At the Dartford Symphony Orchestra Platinum Jubilee Concert at the Mick Jagger Centre, enjoy an evening of classic favourites including 633 Squadron, Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance No1, as well as Dame Vera Lynn’s White Cliffs of Dover and We’ll Meet Again.


Four Coronation Singers, All Saints Church, Maidstone - 18th June 2022

Time: 7.30pm

To celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee The Maidstone Singers’ Extended Choir with Sinfonia, will present Handel’s Coronation Anthems and other music.
